Kevin Murphy Color.Bug Review!

About a month ago I picked up the purple Kevin Murphy Color.Bug product, but was not thrilled with it.

It didn't take to my hair and I ended up with a purple bathroom as a result damn it.

When Luxe List contacted me in regards to supplying me with a Color.Bug in pink, I jumped at the chance as I knew it could only go two ways - I would end up slandering it online for being crap in dark hair, or it would give me the color I was wanting to experience.

I have reviewed the product in the below video so watch and see!!

I usually try and wear a bit of make up in my videos in order to not scare the masses but I have conjunctivitis (gross, I know) at the moment so am trying to keep all make up away from eyes so I only have the bare minimum on.

Color.Bug is only $24.95 so it wont break the bank if you decide it is not for you.

The pink color.bug took to my hair far better than the purple, but once I had the product in, the purple redeemed it self.

You can watch Gabby from Utter Shambles video review here on the pink color.bug which works fantastic on her blonde hair.

Fun!

Like I said in my video, I am a bit too much of a Plain Jane to wear this out in public, but maybe I will give it a go one day...

Maybe, maybe not.

This was my hair in between grade 6 and year 7.

I remember having to sit at a salon in Chadstone for literally 4 hours whilst the colorist stripped my hair of all the bleach and took it back to a more natural color so that I could start year 7.

Geefa was not happy at all and told me then and there that he would never pay for me to have my hair dyed again.

Such a ratty child.

All in all, the Kevin Murphy Color.Bug is a cool product once it takes to your hair, but is not really my style.

What do you think?
Do you have color.bug and do you like or dislike it? Too hipster for you?

  2. So timely! I came across this today http://thebeautydepartment.com/2012/01/chalk-it-up/ and was just looking at some hair chalk on ebay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Temporary-color-Hair-Chalk-Fun-Fast-Easy-free-shipping-pink-purple-orange-blue-/251069038374?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a74e17f26)

I might give these colour bugs a try first - I am really impressed with how well the pink is showing up in your dark hair! Great review :)

    1. I seriously reckon you could just use $2 chalk from the art shop if you put some hair product in first for it to grip to!!

  3. I think the colour looks awesome in your hair, maybe if you have like a dress up party or something to go to use it for that!
Love your shorter hair, looks really sophisticated. Do you miss your long hair? personally I am going to wait til I'm in my mid 30s to cut my hair that short. I do feel that it makes you seem younger and prettier to have long hair!

    1. Thanks :)

I do really miss my long hair and am growing it out so its below the shoulders at least.

I find that people think I am much younger with short hair!

  4. Expensive regrowth! Haha Loved that comment. The product kind of reminds me of the "hair mascara" brush in, wash out things that were popular when I was in school. I wouldn't have the confidence to wear it out either unless it was for a dress up party! The pink looks way better than the purple.

    4. Why shouldn't she take the opportunity to review things that she is genuinely interested in? Jesus we Australians have such bad Tall Poppy Syndrome.

I think the pink looks cute. It's not really my style but I don't think it is 'too much' for you. I love the pink you had as a kid, though, that's awesome!

    5. I agree this blog has just turned into a way of you getting free crap and trying to make money through associate links aka oz sale

    6. Blogging takes time and if I can get money/vouchers/free products etc then I'm more than happy to receive them!

If you don't like that, you really don't have to read my blog but I assure you that I'll continue to accept things that I like and I will blog them if I want to.
For every 1 thing that I accept & blog about, there are 5 more that I've refused because they really are just shit.

I don't know many people in life who would refuse something free that they are interested in, would you?

  7. HAhahaha to the retort! Corn? Carrots go straight through dogs too!

A kid I know (ahem) really, really well once took a bag of dog doo to school and put it in the backpack of a dick who had beat him up the day before! He would have got away with it too if his friend hadn't told the dick he had a kinder surprise in his bag! So he got caught and suspended. When quizzed he said, "well the school wasn't going to do anything to punish him." This kid has plenty of character.

I don't care what you review, I like reviews of all sorts of shit, well, as long as it's not a s*x aid or fem hyg prods! That would just be too gross!!

Nah this sort of product is not for moi! I am too old and am now growing out my greys!! and it is seriously solid white almost! No wrinkles and white hair! I haven't coloured my hair since February. Perhaps when it is all the one colour- NOT THE TABBY CAT LOOK IT IS NOW, I could have a go at these, I am wondering if they might do normal browns. hahaha. As someone else said -for a party they'd be great.

  9. I agree Katie!! Really love your blog Mez. Makes my trip to work on public transport much more interesting to read your posts!

I don't think colour bug is for me but I had never heard of it and is interesting to see the results. Great work again on the blog

  11. Great video review especially seeing it on a fellow brunette. LOL @ Grimace died in your bathroom.
I think my hair and I are a bit too conservative to rock out the colour bug.
Keep up your reviews and freebies ...haters are always gon' hate!
On another note, do you recommend Cedel hairspray? I'm over my Elnett spray.

The cedel does its job, I have no major loves or hates about it though haha

  12. I like that your reviews are honest. If you were jumping up and down with fake excitement and gushing over everything I might be a little turned off but so far you've given really balanced reviews and I've enjoyed watching them :)

I think I'm with you on the color bug though, not something that I can really see myself wearing in public. I'd also worry that it would rub off, not only on my clothing but on things like chairs and sofas.

    1. Thanks!

Also, it’s not like Kevin Murphy sent me the product, luxe list don’t make the product therefore they don’t care if I say I hate it and it’s the worst product on earth! I don’t accept reviews etc if I don’t get to be honest with my review.

  13. I'm loving this trend but when I told my husband I wanted pink ends he told me I was having a bit of a mid-life crisis. I'm only 31! I guess I am a bit too old... Plus not sure how the colour would look in my red/auburn hair.

I have to laugh at the negative commenters. If you really dislike something or someone why would you even bother telling then that! Clearly some people have no life. Keep the reviews coming!!

    1. Haha I think my husband thought I was crazy when I first bought the purple and was relieved when it didn’t work. I used his comb to brush out the pink and he wasn’t happy that its now pink.

I honestly don’t understand all the negative nancy’s out there. If you don’t like it, close the page.

  14. I love this. Maybe I should try it, as my ends are quite blonde and the rest of my hair is very red/auburn. The pink would look rather nice, if I do say so myself.

Hope you enjoyed your chocolate pudding :) Maddy x

  15. Gee always gotta have those anon posters whinging about you reviewing freebies etc...yet they're probably the ones entering your comps when you have something to give away.

  18. I don't know if it bothers you or not, but I came acrossa facebook page that started selling these that has used your picture of the purple in your hair in there picture to show how it works! Not entirely sure how I recognised it but anyway! It's https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=449191131782102&set=a.340486739319209.88166.339381219429761&type=1&theater if your interested.

    2. Really enjoying the post ! Going back to the hair bug topic- friend of mine is a stylist in the US and she said do many high school girls come in to have their damaged ends chopped off bc they used art store chalk instead proper hair chalk . Art store chalk is too drying and hair chalk leaves more pigment with less drying/ damaging. She also said to twist the hair before you apply the chalk bc it will adhere better due to the friction. Caused by the twist ( or multiple colors on a braid). Am I preaching to the choir? If so I'm sorry! Y'all probably know this and ten times more . Btw I need some women/ girl/ Chica opinions ( I'm new to AU and all my girl friends are back home!) is chalking too "young" for a person whose 42? I'm not really conservative but not super radical either- I just love playing with cuts and color- hairs below chin now and sometimes straight some times wavy . I died parts of my hair pink when I first moved here and new mother in law asked me if I was having a mid life crisis ?! Am I to old to do this stuff now?
As for the corn in the poop comeback - I nearly pee'd my pants ! Only thing that might've been better would have be poopvwith crayons in it.
Keep reviewing and screw the nay Sayers !
